Unthar's Keep
Brief HistoryNamed after a legendary Squire who was knighted on his death bed; Unthar's Keep was once a stronghold for the Kray people before the Ballek invasion. During the invasion, it was said that Ballek troops sacked the castle except for a small keep where a young squire by the name of Unthar sought to protect the women and children.
After pleading for the lives of all who were in the keep, the Ballek general struck a deal with Unthar. He would be allowed to duel a soldier in the Ballek army, and if he were victorious, they would let one of the children in the keep leave safely. In return, Unthar demanded for the safe passage of all who were in the keep. Laughing off the idea the general told him he could release one person for each soldier of the Ballek army he could defeat. Expecting the first soldier would kill the young squire the general did not foresee the event lasting for long. Legend says that Unthar was successfully able to secure victory after victory, eventually providing freedom for everyone within the keep. After all of the fighting, Unthar himself was fatally wounded throughout the trials. The general was so amazed by the young squire he knighted him on his death bed and allowed the Keep to remain unharmed as they burned down everything around it. Eventually, a city grew around the keep that would grow until the Sovereignty Wars where the Sahgrin army would take control of the city. When the Ballek finally forced the Sahgrin out, the Sahgrin army burned the city to the ground before leaving destroying the keep in the process. The Ballek rebuilt the city and kept the name Unthar's Keep, even though, no keep can be found in the town. Though Unthar's Keep is located in the south, it is outside of the rule of the Wardens. Countess Ordania and her family have governed over Unthar's Keep for the past three generations. |
